How Grammarly Leveled Up My Writing Hustle

Grammarly is for grammar, right? Well, that’s how they got me. After a short time, I found Grammarly to be oh-so-much more — even more valuable than “Clippy,” that old Microsoft assistant. After two years of tracking, Grammarly has become my tool for measuring my weekly output, evaluating my habits, and dangling a carrot of motivation. Here’s how that happened.

Grammarly is a grammar checker that automatically works with all the standard writing and web-based programs on your computer, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Gmail, Google Docs, etc. It’s more sophisticated than your standard Microsoft Word grammar check and includes many extra features.

For example, Grammarly sends your writing analytics in a weekly report. When I began to receive those emails, I found out exactly how much I wrote, how many unique words I used, my common mistakes, and my most-used tones.

So How Much Did I Really Write?

According to Grammarly, my writing varied greatly over the past two years from 2k to 100k words per week. That’s a crazy-wide range. The other thing to note is that I didn’t write above 50k words per week…
